SUMMARY:Thursday Satsang: "The Transformative Power of Silence" with Jim Nelson - September 13\, 2018
DESCRIPTION:Thursday Satsang on September 13\, 2018\n“The Transformative Power of Silence”\nwith Jim Nelson\nSilence is the greatest communication.  It is the language which transcends the static of our minds and allows us to experience the true Self beyond the limitations of mind.  Being in communion\, in unity with that Self brings peace\, joy\, and love unencumbered by our ideas of peace\, joy\, and love.  In the fullness of Self\, our cravings\, fruitless seeking\, and loneliness end.  Our exhausting journey in the desert of the senses is satiated and questions and desires naturally abate.  Silence is like a “short cut” between two non-points\, a direct route to our Center—where we come home to pure Being.  Psychologist Jim Nelson will lead a short Swami Veda meditation\, which progressively brings the meditator into subtler realms of silence.  The session will be interactive\, contemplative\, and include research proven benefits of Silence\, and personal stories from people who recently attended the Silence retreat at Dunrovin. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n6:00pm Hatha Yoga\n7:00pm Meditation guided by Jim Nelson\n7:30pm Presentation by Jim Nelson\n8:30pm Soup\n9:00pm Prayers and Meditation\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll are welcome! Come for the entire evening\, or join at any time. There is no need to make reservations. Simply show up and enjoy yourself!\nWeekly Format:\n6:00 – 7:00: Hatha Yoga for Everyone! ($10)\n7:00 – 7:30: Guided Meditation (free!)\n7:30 – 8:30: Inspiring Presentation and discussion (donation appreciated)\n8:30 – 9:00: Vegetarian soup (suggested donation $3)\n9:00: Evening Prayers and Clean-up

SUMMARY:Thursday Satsang: "Problems and Practicalities of Immortality" with Paul Emerson Ph.D. - November 1\, 2018
DESCRIPTION:Thursday Satsang – November 1\, 2018\n“Problems and Practicalities of Immortality” with Paul Emerson Ph.D.\n  \nThe period of Halloween\, All Saints Day and All Souls Day is a time to contemplate “ultimates” such as death and the periods beyond death. Many of our faith traditions have ideas of “ever lasting life” and certainly popular culture is fond of dramatizing the “undead” in all of their various (usually horrifying) forms. From a yoga perspective the idea of immortality is something which is simply a fact. That does not mean\, however\, that it is without problems or unworthy of our contemplation. Moreover\, there are various yogic practices which have been described in the tradition as extending physical life (at least for the advanced practitioners). This discussion will try to address some of these ideas and make them practical.

We will hear Swami Veda’s advice for navigating this time of  life. We’ll discuss how the advice from decades ago is still relevant to life in modern America. \nEric has been teaching meditation and yoga for over ten years. His teaching is based on the experiences that he had while immersed in a meditative environment. He deepened his study of meditation while participating in the residential program at the Meditation Center. He also trained for three years at the Swami Rama Institute for Meditation in India. His calm teaching style brings students the tools they need to move toward a peaceful state of mind. \n\nSwami Ma Radha Bharati earned an M.A. in philosophy and commenced doctoral studies in Eastern and Western philosophy with emphasis on views of the self and mind. She has taught philosophy at a number of schools including the University of Hawaii. She received a fellowship from the Humphrey Institute in Public Policy. Swami Ma Radha was initiated by H.H. SUMMARY:Thursday Satsang: Reading of Rabindranath Tagore's "Gitanjali" with John David Wilson - January 3\, 2019
DESCRIPTION:Thursday Satsang – January 3\, 2019\nReading of Rabindranath Tagore’s “Gitanjali”\nwith John David Wilson\n\n\n\n\n\nJohn will be reading and discussing Tagore’s poem\,\nGitanjali; a poem that is meditative and beloved around the world.\n\n\n…The English Gitanjali or Song Offering is a collection of 103 English poems of Tagore’s own English translations of his Bengali poems first published in November 1912 by the India Society of London. It contained translations of 53 poems from the original Bengali Gitanjali\, as well as 50 other poems… In 1913\, Tagore became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize for Literature\, largely for the English Gitanjali. \n\n\n…The word gitanjali is composed from “geet”\, song\, and “anjali”\, offering\, and thus means – “An offering of songs”; but the word for offering\, anjali\, has a strong devotional connotation\, so the title may also be interpreted as “prayer offering of song”… From wikipedia.org.\n\n\n\n\n“When I go from hence\, let this be my parting word\, that what I have seen is unsurpassable. \nI have tasted of the hidden honey of this lotus that expands on the ocean of light\, and thus I am blessed-let this be my parting word. \nIn this playhouse of infinite forms I have had my play and here have I caught sight of him who is formless. \nMy whole body and my limbs have thrilled with his touch who is beyond touch; and if the end comes here\, let it come-let this be my parting word.”  \n      Rabindranath Tagore\, Gitanjali: Song Offerings \n\n\n\n\n\n\n6:00 p.m. Hatha Yoga\n\n7:00 p.m. Meditation with John David Wilson\n7:30 p.m. Readings from Gitanjali with John David Wilson\n\n8:30 p.m.Vegan Soup and Clean-Up\n9:00 p.m. Prayers and Meditation\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nAll are welcome! SUMMARY:Thursday Satsang: "Biofeedback and Stress Management" with Daniel Hertz - January 17\, 2019
DESCRIPTION:Thursday Satsang – January 17\, 2019\nBiofeedback and Stress Management\nwith Daniel Hertz\n  \nBiofeedback is well-recognized as a powerful\, non-invasive\, and relatively simple way to measure subtle changes in the emotional and physiological state.  The goal is to learn self-regulation.  Self-regulation skills are a prerequisite to learning stress management skills.  These same skills also allow us to check and refine the breathing and relaxation skills used in the meditation process.  The three keys to learning self-regulation will be discussed\, and there will also be demonstrations of the equipment. Sensors include respiration\, heart rate\, skin temperature\, muscle tension\, and skin conductance. \nDaniel Hertz (MS\, BCB\, E-RYT 500) has been on the faculty of The Meditation Center in Minneapolis since 1995 and has been offering individual Biofeedback sessions since 2007.  Please see the Biofeedback link on The Center’s home page for more information. Daniel is internationally certified as a Biofeedback practitioner through BCIA.org.  He is also the author of Swami Hari: I am a simple forest monk\, which is available on Amazon.  All profits from the sale of the book go to SRIVERM\, the school in the remote Himalayas founded by Swami Hari.
