Perhaps we think of the faith-based religions\, or professing faith in a belief system. Maybe we think of blind faith\, or of faith in relation to doubt. Many questions are bound to arise when we contemplate the meaning of faith. Is faith different from belief? Is there a difference between outer faith and inner faith? Where do we place our own faith? What do we believe in\, if anything? What is your definition of faith? Do we need to have faith to practice yoga? \nSwami Veda once replied to that question with a question: \n‘Do you need to have faith to play tennis?’ \nIn this talk\, we’ll take a look at what the yoga tradition has to say about faith. Then we’ll survey what other world traditions have to say. We may be surprised at the depth of the subject\, and how all the traditions tend to echo each other. \nPlease join us as we reflect on these questions and examine our own faith. \nAll are welcome. \n“True belief\, which is known as faith\, comes after direct experience. \nFaith born from direct experience becomes part of the aspirant’s being \n& such faith protects the aspirant like a mother protects her child.” \n– Swami Rama \nGary Gran\, CYT\, DAy. Gary and his wife Cynthia have been treading the Himalayan path since the late 1970s. They met at the old Glenview Center in Illinois and have served the tradition in various capacities over the years. They are both certified yoga teachers and Ayurvedic educators. They have published more than eighty articles on yoga\, meditation and Ayurveda.
