SUMMARY:Postponed until September : Virtual 5-Day Summer Silence Retreat 2021 with Swami Radha Bharati\, Jim Nelson\, Emilio Bettaglio\, and Daya Seeley - August 13 – August 17\, 2021
DESCRIPTION:Postponed Until September – Virtual Summer Silence Retreat 2021\nwith Swami Radha Bharati\, Jim Nelson\, Emilio Bettaglio\, and Daya Seeley\nFIVE-DAY SILENCE RETREAT\nAUGUST 13 – AUGUST 17\, 2021\nCOST: $179.00\n“Only those who have learnt to merge their speech into the sea of silence\nhave found the fount of wisdom.\nImmerse yourself in that sea.”\n\n-Swami Veda Bharati-\n(Silence Light Beyond Mind\, page 160)\n_____________________________\n\n“Silence gives us ultimate peace\, happiness and bliss.”\n\n“There is no other way for peace but to go to the deep silence\nwhere She resides in Her majesty.\nJoy lies in silence and stillness.”\n\n-H.H.S. Swami Rama –\n(The Ancient Traveler Writings on Love\, pages 78-79)\n“Silence is the deepest and most authentic form of communication\, both with others and within ourselves. It is the language that transcends the constant noise of our minds and allows us to experience our true Self\, that purest state of Being\, a state of peace\, joy\, and love.”\n– Quotation from Jim Nelson – \nGuided by Swami Radha Bharati and Jim Nelson and the light of Swami Veda Bharati\, the schedule will include daily meditations\, hatha yoga\, and contemplative walks. Subtle body sessions will add depth to your silence experience. Staff will provide every support to guide your experience of silence. \nSwami Ma Radha Bharati took her vows of Sanyasa in 2007 from Swami Veda Bharati.  She earned an M.A. Degree and further formal studies in Comparative Philosophy at the University of Hawaii and an M.A. in Public Policy at the University of Minnesota\, Humphrey School of Public Policy.  Swami Ma Radha has been a disciple of Swami Rama of the Himalayas since 1971\, and has been serving as Academic Director of Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama in Rishikesh\, India\, for the past ten years. \n\nJim Nelson has taught psychology and worked as a Consulting Psychologist for over twenty-five years at a Mental Health Clinic and in the Public School Systems.  He has spent the past twelve years working with at-risk youth until his recent retirement.  He was a member of the Who’s Who of American Teachers and was one of the first recipients of Medtronic’s Outstanding Teacher Award.  He has taught yoga and meditation for thirty years and currently is Vice President of AHYMS-A an association of North and South American Meditation Centers dedicated to non-violence and spreading the teachings of the Himalayan Tradition.  Jim has hosted many Silence retreats and spoken nationally and internationally on a broad range of Philosophical and Psychological topics.  He has recently completed his Book:  Running on Empty—The Seduction\, Destruction\, and Transformation of Our Youth. \n\nEmilio Bettaglio was initiated into the Himalayan Yoga Tradition in 1971 by then Pandit Usharbudh Arya\, and has been a regular practitioner since. He has received instruction on Pranayama practices from various teachers in the tradition over the years and most recently from Pandit Dabral. In 2019\, Emilio took Vanaprastha vows and is currently a member of the Meditation Center’s Spiritual Committee.\n\nDaya Seeley has been teaching Hatha Yoga classes since 2002. In late 2000\, Daya found yoga/meditation courses offered through the Community Education programs in her town. Soon after\, Daya collaborated with her yoga teacher in teaching small classes in a space that had been the local funeral home. This was before it was required to have a yoga certification. Daya went on to study yoga with a popular fitness-center-based teacher training program that required 11 levels of courses. She took them all\, but wanted more. In 2002\, Daya discovered the Institute of the Himalayan Tradition and was taught classical Hatha Yoga by Ma Devi\, Swami Jaidev\, and Maynard Speece. In 2007\, Daya was initiated. This milestone was followed by a trip to India in 2009. In 2010\, Daya entered a year-long Meditation Teaching Certification course through IHT. Since then she has been teaching yoga and meditation classes in the traditional way and has taught hatha yoga in silence retreats for both IHT and The Meditation Center. Daya continues her education through seminars and classes from fabulous teachers within the Himalayan Tradition Yoga community. Virtual Silence Retreat Schedule\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRetreat Schedule coming soon.

In practice\, their values and practices are more similar than different. A careful look reveals that the differences are mostly a matter of semantics. Even the “yoga sutras” shares many ideas and practices in common with Buddhism.\n\nDr. Stephen Parker was initiated in the Himalayan Yoga tradition by Swami Veda Bharati and was given the initiate name Stoma in 1971. Among the first teachers certified by the Himalayan International Teachers’ Association\, H.I.T.A.\, he began teaching hatha yoga in 1974. During that time he also studied Sanskrit with Swami Veda and South Asian languages and culture for his B.A. at the University of Minnesota.\n\nStoma is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher at the 500-hour level of the Yoga Alliance (E-RYT 500). A member of the International Association of Y.T.\, he serves on the faculties of the Meditation Center in Minneapolis and the Sadhaka Grama ashram in Rishikesh\, India. He is also a senior faculty member of the Himalayan Yoga Tradition Teachers’ Training Program. He has lectured on yoga\, meditation\, yoga psychology\, and spiritual practice in the U.S. and Canada as well as in Caribbean countries\, Holland\, Italy\, Austria\, Hungary\, Lithuania\, South Africa\, Korea\, Hong Kong\, and India. In 2004 he helped originate and teach the first course on yoga in an American medical school at the University of Minnesota Academic Medical Center. In 2007 he received preliminary vows of renunciation from Swami Veda and the Shankaracharya of Karvirapitha.\n\nStoma has been a licensed psychologist in private practice in St. Paul\, MN since 1985. He also serves as Adjunct Assistant School Professor of Counseling and Psychological Services at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Professional Psychology at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis\, MN. He teaches on the faculty of the Introductory Workshops of the Minnesota Society of Clinical Hypnosis. In addition to authoring journal articles and book chapters\, Dr. Parker edited volume two of Swami Veda’s definitive scholarly work on the “Yoga-Sutras of Patanjali” and he has been a peer review editor for the “Journal of Men’s Studies\,” the “American Journal of Orthopsychiatry\,” the I”nternational Journal of Yoga T. and Yoga Mimamsa.” He is also the author of “Clearing the Path\, The Yoga Way to a Clear and Pleasant Mind: Yoga\, Neuroscience and Emotion” (2017) published by AHYMSA publishers.

Brown\nCharles Crenshaw will be our host\, guiding the discussion with Dr. Brown.\n\n	\n\n\n\n\nTo receive the zoom link for this event\, please subscribe  to The Meditation Center’s e-newsletter \non the home page of this website.\n\n\n	\n\n\n7:00 p.m.: Meditation with Charles Crenshaw\n7:30- 9:00 p.m. or longer: Discussion with Rev. Dr.  Thomas Brown\,\n\n\n\n\n	\n\n\n\nJoin us for a discussion with Rev. Dr.  Thomas Brown\, who has been a meditator for 45+ years\,  and has navigated through life (as a Civil Rights activist) and influenced many\, using Gandhian informed  – Kingian concepts of non-violence. The discussion will be guided by Charles Crenshaw.\n\n\n	\n\n\n\nRev. Dr. Thomas L. Brown is currently retired as the Senior Pastor of Ebenezer M.B. Church in Indianapolis\, Indiana.  With 33 years of dedicated service through the fulfillment of pastoral duties\, providing spiritual guidance and delivering a leadership that placed Ebenezer as a Church “active in community”; initiating programs providing various services to empower people.  As a part of his commission at Ebenezer he served as CEO of the church and of the Ebenezer Church Foundation.  He sought to teach that the Church is as a means of serving God- through service and serving others and to move the church to an “ultimate” and “operative paradigm” of a wholistic ministry model. A model that is not traditional “brick and mortar” of the “Church of Programs” that is sustained maximally in services and minimally in buildings. \nHe can be heard across Central Indiana on a variety of topics every Saturday as he hosts the historic talk radio show “Operation Breadbasket Presents HARAMBEE” on AM-1310 WTLC. He also serves as the President of the Indiana Christian Leadership Conference and was the Director of the Institute of Urban Ministry and Professor of Religious Studies (Grad and Undergrad) at Martin University for twenty five years.  \nDr. Brown is a graduate of Bishop College\, with BA and BS degrees in Religion\, Philosophy and Social Science; The Martin Luther King\, Jr. School of Social Change at Crozier Theological Seminary\, with a MA degree in Ethics; The School of Religion at Northwestern University\, with a Masters of Divinity and Doctorate of Sacred Theology in Theology\, Church and Community; and The School of Urban Affairs at Northwestern University\, with a Doctorate of Philosophy-Post Grad Studies in Urban Affairs and Economics. \n\n\n\n\nDr. Brown’s life work and ministry has been deeply rooted in the Civil Rights Movement and remains deeply rooted in social change. He has worked with the Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC)\, where he participated in Freedom Rides and sit-ins in the southern United States. He has led voter education drives in the South\, where he was arrested many times for his works. He also aided in organizing the Black Panther Party in Lowndes County\, Alabama. \nDr. Brown has shown a commitment to education in his work and ministry. He has served as a successful Director of Admissions at Bishop College and as a special recruitment consultant to Black Colleges of the South where his combined track record spans 19\,500 black students who received an opportunity to attend college. \nDr. Brown has applied his academic training; interests in economics\, education and community health; and his faith in God to his work. He has served as a special consultant to the Southern Christian Leadership Conference\, to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development\, to \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCSA and to his father\, the late Rev. Andrew J. Brown. He has served on the school board of Indianapolis Public Schools. \nDr. Brown has studied extensively abroad. South Africa called him to study intensively the Apartheid and “change” that was enveloping. Additionally\, he made a special visit South Africa\, where he interviewed Nelson Mandela following his release from prison. His international studies in India and Asia were focused on researching the Missing Years of Jesus to reveal the hidden truths of Jesus’ life and teachings. His studies have also included Eastern religions\, Medicine of the Spiritual Path and applying Yoga to Christian lifestyles. \n\n\n\n\nRead Rev. He starts with how the mind perceives objects both in the physical and mental world. These perceptions can be followed back in the mind towards the source of creativity. Finally\, he provides a practical method to be creative in any endeavor. This lecture will benefit anyone who feels blocked and wants to open the floodgates of their creative intelligence.

SUMMARY:Thursday Satsang via Zoom: "Love in the Yoga-Sutra - Where is It?" with Salvatore Zambito - June 17\, 2021
DESCRIPTION:Thursday Satsang via Zoom – June 17\, 2021\n“”Love in the Yoga-Sutra – Where is It?””\nwith Salvatore Zambito\n7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.\n7:00 p.m. – Meditation with Swami Radha Bharati\n7:30 p.m. – Talk with Salvatore Zambito\n  \n\nTo receive the zoom link for this event\, please subscribe \nto The Meditation Center’s e-newsletter on the home page of this website.\nA Message from Salvatore…”The title of my Thursday talk is: Love in the Yoga-Sutra – Where is it?  This is based on a conversation I had with Swami Veda in 2006 on completion of my first 40-day Silence. In Silence practice\, reading is either eliminated or very restricted. My reading was restricted to the Yoga-Sutra. One thing I noticed was that the term love does not appear in this text. I asked Swamiji about this and I will share his response.\n\nSalvatore Zambito is a well-known mystic\, rogue scholar\, and world-traveling recluse. In 1967\, while a sophomore in college\, Salvatore discovered hatha yoga and massage. This was the beginning of his active and very personal body mind research in transpersonal psychology and anatomical kinesiology. \n\n\n\n\n\nHe began his exploration of yoga as a student of Hatha Yoga with the Sivananda Yoga Centers in Chicago and Val Morin\, Canada. He was gently coerced into becoming a teacher in 1969. The Yoga-Sutra of Patañjali entered his life in 1969. \nThrough the years\, Salvatore has established several yoga centers in America and taught yoga related subjects at institutes and universities around the world. From 1980 to 1986 he taught Yoga and Stress Management at Boise State University. During this period\, he also served as BSU’s Chief of the Anatomical Kinesiology Laboratory\, where he directed cadaver dissection and prosection\, and served as a teaching assistant. He provided stress management consultation to the Boise business community and taught stress management strategies at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise and Mercy Medical Center in Nampa\, Idaho. \nSalvatore always looks for interesting areas to explore. In 1980 he researched\, proposed and administered one of the first two national pilot programs for the application of Hatha Yoga as a functional improvement and comfort modality for Multiple Sclerosis. He administered the program for several years. \nIn 1988\, Salvatore’s research finally took him to India\, where he lived for two years. To his surprise\, he found himself teaching in ashrams and universities there. Salvatore returns to India regularly to study and teach. \nSalvatore is the author of The Unadorned Thread of Yoga: The Yoga-Sūtra of Patañjali in English\, which presents each of the 196 sūtras\, with text analysis and twelve authoritative translations. \nIn addition to his expertise in yoga\, Salvatore is a structural bodyworker in the Rolfing tradition and a licensed massage therapist in the State of Washington. He has created a 400-hour course of bodywork instruction (Dimensional Integration™) accredited through IMSTAC (International Massage and Somatic Therapies Accrediting Council). His years of yogic breathwork\, hands-on bodywork and cadaver dissection led to The Wind of Life\, a workshop that addresses the dimensions of human respiration. This set of seminars provides techniques to open and balance the respiratory capsule through movement education and manual therapeutic facilitation. \nSalvatore is the founder of the Yoga-Sūtras Institute. His teaching areas span meditation\, the Yoga-Sūtras of Patañjali\, anatomy\, kinesiology\, and physiology. He is on staff at several yoga centers and ashrams around the world. \nSalvatore lives with his wife\, dogs\, and a flock of pampered chickens on a tiny hobby farm in western Washington State. \nBio courtesy of The Yoga Sutras Institute. \n\n\n\n\n\n
