SUMMARY:"Beyond The Asanas: Intermediate Yoga Philosophy and Terms" with Paul Emerson\, Ph.D. - Tuesdays: June 11 - July 9\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:“Beyond The Asanas:\nIntermediate Yoga Philosophy and Terms”\nwith Paul Emerson\, Ph.D.\nTuesdays: June 11 – July 9\, 2024\n 6:30pm – 8:00pm\nCost: $80.00\n\nRegister here.\n\nYoga philosophy can be complicated-different concepts\, different language\, different practices.  Moreover\, Indian philosophy is not a single entity but a variety of complementary views.  This class will provide a road map and tools for further exploration of yogic texts.   We will start with the timeline of Indian literature (week 1)\, discuss samkhya metaphysics on which the Yoga Sutras are based (week 2)\, explore the Yoga Sutras (week 3)  and finally delve into some of the hatha yoga sanskrit texts (week 4).  The overall focus will be on how to make these concepts practical and relevant to our own sadhanas (meditation practices).  For texts we will use portions of Swami Rama’s The Royal Path\, Swami Veda’s Philosophy of Hatha Yoga as well as various on-line texts.\n\n\n\n\n\nPaul Emerson\, Ph.D. is a biomedical engineer who has worked on dialysis\, respiratory and cardiac products.  At various times he has been a research scientist\, manager of clinical research with a major biomedical company\, software engineer and a university instructor.  He holds 12 patents in the areas of dialysis\, sleep therapy and implantable cardiac devices.  For the Meditation Center he has been the local go-to person on the physiology of breathing and is a scholar of the ancient yogic texts.  He has been teaching yoga and related subjects since 1976 and was certified in 1980 by the Rockford School of Yoga.

SUMMARY:"Ayurveda: Life is Relationship! Living in the Material World " via Zoom with Gary and Cynthia Gran on June 8\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:In Collaboration with Palatine Himalayan Yoga and Meditation Center\nand the Milwaukee Himalayan Yoga and Meditation Center\n\n	\n\n\nAyurveda: Life is Relationship! Living in the Material World\nwith Gary and Cynthia Gran\nJune 8\, 2024\n1:00-3:00 p.m.\nCost: $25.00\nRegister here. \n\n	\n\n\n\nPlease join us for a fresh look at Ayurveda\, the ancient Science of Life.  \nAyurveda explains that the material world we live in is composed of the five great elements\, and that we exist as body\, mind and spirit in the realm of time\, space and causation. \nSwami Rama explained that the quality of our life is determined by the quality of our relationships in the material world – our relationships with ourselves\, with each other\, and with nature. \nAre we trying to live outside of nature’s limits? \nAre we being kind to ourselves and to others? \nAre we in harmony with Life? \nIn this seminar\, we’ll explore the essential elements and qualities of Life according to Ayurveda before reflecting upon our relationships both within and without. Our goal will be to move towards greater balance and harmony with Life. May all be well. May all know peace. \n\n\n\n\nGary and Cynthia Gran have been treading the Himalayan path since the late 1970s. They met at the old Glenview Center in Illinois and have served the tradition in various capacities over the years. They are both certified yoga teachers and Ayurvedic educators. They have published more than eighty articles on yoga\, meditation and Ayurveda. They are once again enjoying desert gardening\, cooking and hiking at their home in Tucson\, Arizona. \nGary Gran\, DAy. CYT \nCynthia Gran\, DAy. SUMMARY:Global Full Moon Meditation via Zoom from Chicago\, May 23\, 2024\, 9:00-10:00p.m. CT
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, May 23\, 2024\nGlobal Full Moon Meditation Via Zoom\n9:00-10:00 P.M. CT\nThis Full Moon Meditation via Zoom will begin guided by Dr. Stephen Parker (Stoma)  followed by a silent meditation until 10:00 p.m.\nThis event is courtesy of the Chicago Himalayan Yoga & Meditation Center – HYMC. \nTo get the Zoom link and for more information aregarding the global full moon meditation schedule \nvisit HYMC’s website here. \n“You are lovingly invited to sit in meditation for an hour wherever you are\, in your home or with friends. Total beginners and longtime practitioners\, non-initiates and initiates are welcome. If you cannot sit for the entire hour\, sit as long as you are able; as Swami Veda has said\, ‘Let the quietness of the mind continue even after you rise..’” (Courtesy of AHYMSIN.org January 2023 newsletter). \nEveryone is welcome! \n“Yoga Philosophy views the mind as Universal field; its waves passing through us and becoming our individual minds. This Universal mind is a radiant force and is also known as a Universal Guru within.” \n“When all sit together at the same time even in different parts of the world\, they connect to the Universal Guru mind and generate a strong field\, like so many magnets being joined together and forming a much stronger magnet; the strength of each then equals the combined strength of all.” \n– Swami Veda Bharati –

SUMMARY:Thursday Satsang via Zoom and In-Person Viewing: "A Dialogue with Wolfgang Bischoff" - May 2\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Thursday Satsang Via Zoom and In-Person Viewing at TMC – May 2\, 2024\n“A Dialogue with Wolfgang Bischoff”\n7:00 – 8:30 p.m. CT\n\n	\n\n\n5:30-6:45 p.m.: In Person Gentle Hatha Yoga with Michael Snodgrass\n7:00-7:30 p.m.: Guided Contemplation with Wolfgang Bischoff\n7:30-8:30 p.m.: “A Dialogue with Wolfgang Bischoff”\n8:30 p.m.: Evening Prayers\n8:40 p.m.: Snacks\n\n	\n\n\nOn Thursday\, May 2nd\, join Wolfgang for a dialogue on consciousness\, meditation\, mindfulness\, life\, joy\, and being. Everyone is invited to join the discussion. \nRead below a letter Wolfgang wrote to his students on April’s full moon day. \n\n	\n\nDear ones\, \nOn Wednesday\, April 24\, the spring full moon shines in the starry sky. Let us become still from 9 to 10 pm and contemplate the essence of meditation. \nIf you can no longer do anything because you are perhaps ill or otherwise absorbed by life\, if your mantra has left you and you have difficulty contemplating\, if your mind is full of restless movements and you don’t feel well at all\, what do you have left? \nWith every breath\, you can sink into the depths of your consciousness and connect with your pure being\, your mindfulness\, your awareness\, your consciousness. This has always been there\, is always there and will always be there. Now it looks in wonder at your restlessness and discomfort. When you experience this\, a smile emerges within you and you get a shy glimpse of the first inner envelope that surrounds your pure being – joy\, peace and bliss. With this inner awareness you can then look at everything in the world within you and around you and experience that you do not have to identify with it. \nI wish you all a contemplative\, peaceful\, quiet hour \nin loving solidarity \nWolfgang \n\n	\n\n\nWolfgang Bischoff \, Spiritual Director of the “Himalaya Institute Germany”. \nWolfgang Bischoff is the founder of several\, mainly non-profit organizations as well as the Himalaya Institute Germany and has been supporting the Manini land development project in Odisha\, India\, for twenty years. As founder of the Human Culture Academy and as a former consultant to the World Bank and UNESCO\, he strives to carry a human culture into companies. His main work today is personal destiny counseling to help people to understand\, change and order their own lives. In fateful times such as these\, we wanted to get to know his perspective on the current upheavals and talked to him about how to shape the life and future of the human community. Wolfgang Bischoff has been taught by masters of the Himalayas in their traditional meditation methods for 37 years. \nWolfgang is a mantra initiator and a member of the AHYMSIN Adhyatma Samiti\, or Spiritual Committee. \nTo support the work of The Meditation Center and register you can donate here (suggested donation $15.00) for Thursday Satsang or make a general donation by clicking on the “donate” button on the “Support TMC” website page. \nOr donate through PayPal. \nNote: There is parking available for TMC visitors \nin the St. Boniface lot across the street from the Center.
