The American Psychological Association’s website provides a list of proven benefits including less somatic distress\, reduced depressive symptoms\, lower anxiety\, less neural reactivity and less emotional reactivity. In addition\, there are positives including better working memory\, better-sustained attention\, better focus\, more cognitive flexibility\, greater relationship satisfaction\, more self-insight\, enhanced intuition\, more equanimity\, greater morality\, greater empathy\, and greater compassion. With a list like that\, what are we waiting for? \nHow do we strengthen our practice of mindfulness? What’s the relationship of mindfulness to yoga? How is mindfulness connected to memory? What happens to our memory as we age? What are the important things to remember? \nIn this series of talks\, we’ll take a deep dive into the long history of mindfulness practice. We’ll listen deeply and reflect on the rich treasure trove of mindfulness and memory practices. And we’ll share specific practices as passed down in the Himalayan Tradition. \nAll are welcome. \n“This practice of constant mindfulness is taught universally by the yogis of the Himalayas\, irrespective of their affiliations.” \n– Swami Veda Bharati \nGary Gran\, CYT\, DAy. Gary and his wife Cynthia have been treading the Himalayan path since the late 1970s. SUMMARY:Calligraphy Class 1 taught by Misato Sakai...a fundraiser for TMC on November 28\, 2025 from 10:30-11 a.m.
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nCalligraphy Class 1 taught by Misato Sakai\nThis class is a fundraiser for TMC\nDate: November 28\, 2025\nTime: 10:30-11:45 a.m.\nThe class will meet in the TMC dining room and the class will also be live-streamed. A zoom link will be provided  after you RSVP for the Zoom option.\nFive seats in-person are available at this time.\nReserve/Register for  your in-person seat here.\nRSVP here for Zoom access. \nA zoom link will be provided after you RSVP. \nDonate in person with cash\, check\, or on TMC’s square app or donate online here on TMC’s website\nThe origin of calligraphy is pictograph in the shell-and-bone script in the Shang Dynasty (1600-1046 B.C.E.) in China. Since then\, mainly six types of writing were developed in China. Chinese letters were brought to Japan by Korean Confucianists in the late fourth century\, and then through introduction of Buddhism by Japanese envoys to the Sui Dynasty (600−614 B.E.) and the Tang Dynasty (630−894 B.E.). Currently\, five main different styles of letters are used in Japanese calligraphy. \nCalligraphy is a form of meditation with a brush. Spinal alignment\, breathing\, and concentrations are the three key components in the art. In this class\, we will start with a short silent meditation with Swami Radha. Then\, we will learn how to make liquid ink from charcoal\, how to hold a brush\, and how to write dots and lines in coordination with breathing. We will practice one or two letters in 楷書 (kaisyo)\, a printed style writing towards the end of the class. \nNo experience is needed for this class. If you have a calligraphy set\, please bring it. We also have supplies including paper and sumi ink for those who have no set. We hope you enjoy this meditative art class. \nMisato Sakai started calligraphy at age six in Japan. Since then\, she has been appreciating the meditative aspect of calligraphy. Having been studying environmental science (B.Sc.)\, environmental management (M.Sc.)\, and human resource education (Ph.D.)\, she sees calligraphy and tea ceremony in connection with nature\, both of which continuously provide discoveries and learning opportunities. \nThe following items at Dick Blick look good for those who would like to have their own set. \nView here the “Dick Blick” list. \nI do have six sets to give away for those who do not have a set. \nIf they are planning to come in person on November 28th\, and would like a set\, they can notify me prior to the class so that they will have their set. \nDownload here a list of online calligraphy supply sources. \n* Those who are planning to attend the class online and have no calligraphy set\, please contact Misato at misatos37@gmail.com.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

DESCRIPTION:Thursday Satsang – December 4\, 2025\nThe speaker will join us via Zoom\nThe talk will can also be viewed on the TV screen at TMC\n“Thursday\, November 20:  “Mindfulness\, Memory & Remembrance – Part II”\nwith Gary Gran\, CYT\, DAy.\nEveryone is Welcome!\n7:00-8:50 p.m. CT\n\n	\n\n\n5:30-6:45 p.m.: In-Person Gentle Yoga with Michael Snodgrass \n7:00-7:30 p.m. Guided Meditation by Gary Gran \n7:20-7:30 p.m.: “Mindfulness\, Memory & Remembrance – Part II”  by Gary Gran \n8:30-8:50: Full Moon Puja. (see below) \n9:00-10:00 p.m.: Global Full Moon Meditation \n10:00 p.m.: Evening Chants \nThese days\, the practice of mindfulness promises us everything from better health and better relationships to success in business and sports. They met at the old Glenview Center in Illinois and have served the tradition in various capacities over the years. They are both certified yoga teachers and Ayurvedic educators. They have published more than eighty articles on yoga\, meditation and Ayurveda. They are currently in winter residence in Tucson\, Arizona\, enjoying winter gardening\, cooking\, and hiking. \n\n	\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n“Long Night Super Full Moon Puja”\n(also known as the Cold Full Moon)\nDecember 4\, 2025\n8:30-8:50 p.m.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAfter the talk by Gary Gran and before the Full Moon Meditation\, there will be a short puja of invocation of and gratitude to the Great Mother as Maha Lakshmi. Her boons of generosity\, fertility\, stability\, and wisdom have benefitted to our Meditation Center building and community during this fall’s fund raising efforts. \nBelow is the mantra that will be recited during the puja. \nMaha Lakshmi Gayatri\nOM\nMaha Lakshmyai cha vidmahe\n(We meditate upon the Great Mother as fully-endowed Lakshmi) \nVishnu patnyai cha dhimahi \n(To that Shakti of Preservation may we “be en-wisdomed”\, may light imbue our buddhi\, awakening wisdom.) \nTan no Lakshmih prachodayat \n(May Divine Mother’s Grace impel and guide our mind in the direction of growing the spiritual prosperity \n of our collective mindfield as initiates of the Tradition here for the Meditation Center.) \n\n\n\n\n\n	\n\n\nTo support the work of The Meditation Center and register you can donate here  or make a general donation by clicking on the “donate” button on the “Support TMC” website page. \nOr donate through PayPal. \nThere is parking available for TMC visitors in the St. Boniface lot across the street from the Center.

\n\n	\n\n\nTo support the work of The Meditation Center and register you can donate here  or make a general donation by clicking on the “donate” button on the “Support TMC” website page. \nOr donate through PayPal. \nThere is parking available for TMC visitors in the St. Boniface lot across the street from the Center.
