SUMMARY:Thursday Satsang In Person and Via Zoom : “The Mahat Buddhi Part II” with Gary Gran CYT\, DAy. - September 10\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nThursday Satsang in Person and Via Zoom – September 10\, 2026\n“The Mahat Buddhi Part II”\nwith Gary Gran\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \n6:00-7:00 p.m.: In-Person Gentle Yoga   \n7:00-7:30 p.m. Meditation Guided by Gary Gran CYT\, DAy. \n7:30-8:30 p.m. “ The Mahat Buddhi – Part II” with Gary Gran CYT\, DAy. \n8:30 p.m.: Evening Chants \n8:40 p.m. Snacks and  Conversation \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””][/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]. \nMahat is known as the universal mind. All of our individuated minds are said to be connected to universal mind\, but do we experience that? Plato famously said:  \n“Most people are not just comfortable in their ignorance\,  but hostile to anyone who points it out.” \nIn sankhya philosophy\, mahat is the first evolute of Mother Nature in the chain of causation. Being the first means that the universal mind is very close to the Source. How do we experience universal mind? How do we connect with the Source? These are the kinds of questions that we’ll take up in this talk. \nBuddhi is the personal corollary of mahat for each individual. It is our intellect\, the part of us that discerns whatever we are seeing and makes decisions. However\, our buddhi can be clear\, muddied or even dormant. Ayurveda tells us that ‘mistakes made by the intellect’ (think poor choices) are the prime causes of disease. So how do we sharpen our intellect in order to make the best choices for ourselves and others? \nIn these talks\, we’ll reflect on the views from various sources including sankhya\, yoga\, ayurveda and the neoplatonic tradition of the west. We’ll consider the methods of working with buddhi and connecting with mahat\, and we’ll listen deeply to the teachings passed down to us from our teachers in the Himalayan tradition. \nAll are welcome. \n“Buddhi means that which discriminates\, judges and decides; these are the three main functions of your buddhi. You can term it in English as intellect.”  \n~ Swami Rama~ \nAll are welcome. \n \n  \nGary Gran\, CYT\, DAy. Gary and his wife Cynthia have been treading the Himalayan path since the late 1970s. They met at the old Glenview Center in Illinois and have served the tradition in various capacities over the years. They are both certified yoga teachers and Ayurvedic educators. They have published more than eighty articles on yoga\, meditation and Ayurveda. They are currently in summer residence in Minneapolis \n  \nTo support the work of The Meditation Center and register you can donate here or make a general donation by clicking on the “donate” button on the “Support TMC” website page. Or donate through PayPal. \nThere is parking available for TMC visitors in the St. Boniface lot across the street from the Center. \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY: A Special Event- "Practical Mysticism and Emotional Survival: Navigating the Imperfect in Troubled Times." Presented by John Hakim Bushnell\, a teacher and guide of the Light Upon Light Sufi Center in Minneapolis on Friday: September 11\, 2026\, 7:00-8:30 p.m. CT In Person
DESCRIPTION: A Special Event\n“Practical Mysticism and Emotional Survival:\nNavigating the Imperfect in Troubled Times.”\nPresented by John Hakim Bushnell\, a teacher and guide of the\nLight Upon Light Sufi Center in Minneapolis\nFriday: September 11\, 2026\n7:00-8:30 p.m. CT\nIn Person\nThe overarching theme of the evening is praying with the body.  The focus is on simple words and simple movements with not too much talking. We will use a bit of seated “Sri Ram” mantra to establish familiarity\, then a bit of “Aramaic Jesus\,” a bit of traditional zikr\, some Sufi methods for making practice stronger\, and a closing. The group will move back and forth between seated practice and standing Dances\, which will keep us from tiring the body..  \nWe’re soon to offer a new “Dances of Universal Peace” meeting based on the first principles of Murshid Samuel L. Lewis and Hazrat Inayat Khan.  Murshid SAM liked to quote Sufi Al-Ghazzali who famously said\, “Sufism is based on experience and not premises.” \nEach person is their own spiritual laboratory. The pure research is how to swiftly change one’s interior state through Breaths\, Walks\, and Turns\,  Applied research is specific “Dances of Universal Peace” which demonstrate the same principle. \nJohn Hakim Bushnell has followed the Sufi Path for 36 years under the guidance of  Murshid Saadi \,Dr. Neil Douglas Klotz\, of the Chisti Sufi lineage.  Murshid Saadi has given Hakim permission to teach and to give initiation into the Chisti Sufi lineage . Hakim teaches the Way of the Heart through singing Divine Names and is a certified mentor of the Dances of Universal Peace. \nHakim has played 2nd guitar for Murshid Saadi at many retreats. Hakim presents the traditional foundations of Middle Eastern Mysticism\, The Aramaic Words of Jesus\, and more. He combines friendly informality with an experienced leading style that helps people to feel both comfortable and included. \nHe leads the “Zikr of Divine Remembrance” on Wednesday nights. He currently teaches “Practical Mysticism and Emotional Survival\, a Toolbox for Life in the World\,” on most Sundays in 2026/2027.
