SUMMARY:Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® A process to enhance your yoga practice and overcome pain with Gabriele Lorf-Allen - November 23\, 2024; 1:00-3:30 p.m.
DESCRIPTION:Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement®\nA process to enhance your yoga practice and overcome pain\nwith Gabriele Lorf-Allen\nNovember 23\, 2024\n1:00-3:30 p.m.\nCost: $25.00\nRegister here.\nIn this workshop\, we will shift the focus from movements that lead to a specific outcome\, i.e. a yoga asana\, to a movement process that potentiates your brain’s plasticity\, thereby improving any desired outcome spontaneously and effortlessly. It is a process of approximating a result\, discovering your limiting habits\, and accessing new possibilities. \nInstructions: \n1. The movements will be slow and easy. Dress accordingly and wear loose-fitting clothes. \n2. Bring a folded towel or firm pillow (garden kneeling pads work great) to support your head when lying on the side\, high enough to fill the space between your head and shoulder. \n3. Have a chair or stool in the room (we may use it) \n4. Adjust your camera to capture your entire body lying and sitting on the floor. \nEarly on\, Gabriele worked as a physical therapist in hospitals and private practice. Her interest in rehabilitation from brain trauma led her to study the Feldenkrais Method\, which has informed every aspect of her life for 30 years. Over the past decade\, Gabriele has had the opportunity to share this transformational movement method with HYMT sangha members at meditation retreats. She maintains a private practice in Oakland\, CA\, working with children and adults.

SUMMARY:Thursday Satsang Via Zoom and In-Person Viewing: "Yoga\, Christianity\, and Light " with Gary Gran - December 12\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Thursday Satsang Via Zoom and In-Person Viewing – December 12\, 2024\n“Yoga\, Christianity\, and Light ” with Gary Gran\n  \n 5:30-6:45 p.m.: Gentle Hatha Yoga \n7:00-7:30 p.m. – Meditation with Swami Ma Radha Bharati \n 7:30-8:30 p.m. – “Yoga\, Christianity\, and Light ” with Gary Gran  \n8:30 p.m.: Prayers \n  \nEveryone is welcome!!! \nPlease join us as we reflect on the teachings of Christianity through the lens of yoga. Advent is the beginning of the liturgical year in Christianity leading up to the birth of Christ at Christmas. This four-week period also marks the beginning of a new astronomical year as the sun reaches its solstice on December 21st. Many global traditions honor this turning of the year with the lighting of candles. \n  \n·      What is behind the correlation of light with the Christmas season? \n·      What does yoga have to say about the winter solstice? \n·      Can yoga be practiced in the context of religion? Do they conflict? \n·      Is meditation taught in the Bible? \n·      How are we to interpret some of the sayings of Jesus? \n  \n“I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life.” – John 8:12 KJV \n  \nJesus is well-known for teaching with parables. As a wisdom teacher\, he tells us: “He that has ears to hear\, let him hear.” – Matthew 11:15 KJV \n  \nIn this evening’s contemplation\, we’ll listen deeply to the teachings of the sages as reflected in art\, in nature\, in religious culture\, and in language (including Aramaic\, the language that Jesus spoke). Our goal will be to enter and rest in the heart’s core. May we experience together the wisdom\, the love\, and the light of the wisdom teachings. \n  \n“Blessed is anyone who meditates on Wisdom and studies Her ways in their heart and ponders Her secrets.” – Ecclesiasticus 14:20 \n\n	\n\n\nGary Gran\, CYT\, DAy.   \nGary first began to appreciate the depth of the Christian tradition when listening to Swami Rama\, Swami Veda\, and Swami Jaidev talk on the yogic interpretation of the Christian scriptures at the old Glenview center. \nGary and his wife Cynthia have been treading the Himalayan path since the 1970s. They met at the Glenview Center in Illinois and have served the tradition in various capacities over the years. They are both certified yoga teachers and Ayurvedic educators. They have published more than eighty articles on yoga\, meditation and Ayurveda. They are currently in winter residence in Tucson\, Arizona \nTo support the work of The Meditation Center and register you can donate here or make a general donation by clicking on the “donate” button on the “Support TMC” website page. \nOr donate through PayPal. \nThere is parking available for TMC visitors in the St. Boniface lot across the street from the Center.

SUMMARY:Ayurveda & the Gunas: The Qualities of Life with Gary & Cynthia Gran via Zoom - December 14\, 2024 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. CST
DESCRIPTION:Ayurveda & the Gunas: The Qualities of Life\nwith Gary & Cynthia Gran\nZoom Workshop\nDecember 14\, 2024\n 1:00-3:00 p.m. CST\nCost:$25.00 \nRegister here.\nAyurveda is primarily a qualitative science. It gives us a language of qualities that helps us understand the interrelationship of all things in life. \nAll of our experiences in life have to be either digested and assimilated\, or broken down and eliminated. There is the food we taste\, the aromas we smell\, the sights we see\, the air we breathe\, the sounds we hear\, and the thoughts we think. How do we create balance and harmony out of all these qualities in life? \nIn this class we’ll start with the primal tri-guna\, or three prime qualities of sattva\, rajas and tamas. Then we’ll look at the pairs of opposites along with practical methods for creating balanced\, healthy relationships. \n“The three gunas – sattva\, rajas\, and tamas – are the three dynamic states of prakriti\, which\, like ropes or strings\, bind the soul to the body of five elements.” -Bhagavad Gita 14:5 \n“The aspirant should always be vigilant\, watching that tamas and rajas remain tamed with the help of sattva so that s/he can continue on the path undisturbed and undistracted. In order to accomplish this\, earnest effort should be made\, and one should meditate regularly.” – Swami Rama’s commentary  \nPlease join us for an afternoon of satsang to share and ponder the teachings. Our goal as always\, will be to move towards greater balance and harmony with life. All are welcome. \n  \nGary & Cynthia Gran have been treading the Himalayan path since the late 1970s. They met at the old Glenview Center in Illinois and have served the tradition in various capacities over the years. They are both certified yoga teachers and Ayurvedic educators. They have published more than eighty articles on yoga\, meditation and Ayurveda. They enjoy desert gardening\, cooking and hiking at their home in Tucson\, Arizona. \nGary Gran\, CYT\, DAy. \nCynthia Gran\, DAy. E-RYT 500\, YACEP \n
