SUMMARY:Mauni Amavasya (Silence Day) - Tuesday\, February 1\, 2022
DESCRIPTION:Mauni Amavasya (Silence Day) – Tuesday\, February 1\, 2022\nDetails of events at The Meditation Center coming soon. \nMauni Amavasya (Silence Day) is an annual observance. The observation of Silence Day is a practice that Swami Veda Bharati invited us to practice. \nIn 2022\, Mauni Amavasya is 1st February. \nIn 2023\, Mauni Amavasya is 21st January. \nSwami Veda has said\, “…there is also an annual silence day in the traditions of India. It is called Mauni Amavasya. Mauni means ‘of or for silence’\, and amavasya means ‘no-moon day.’ \nIt occurs on the no-moon day of the Maagha month in the Hindu calendar when sun and moon are both supposed to enter the sign of Capricorn (makara rashi). \nIt is held in the tradition as the day when Manu\, the Archetypal Man first appeared on earth; he wedded Shata-roopa (She of a Hundred Beautiful Forms) and generated humankind.” \nHe has further explained that the practice of silence is not limited to Indian spiritual traditions only – “On the other hand\, if you prefer to be true to some western tradition you may research if there was a day sacred to Harpokrates\, the Greek god of silence whose statues have been found as far away as the Gandhara country (present day Afghanistan). Harpokrates was derived from the Egyptian god Harpa-khruti\, the child Horus\, representing the daily new born sun\, the source of light. \nOf course\, there is an amplitude of Christian saints who have taught silence and there are numerous monasteries of various orders dedicated to silence.” \nHe further has shared that – “…I would like many of my friends to set aside at least one day to share the silence with me just as you have shared the full moon day for an hour each month for more than a decade now. \n…If you plan from now\, you can arrange your worldly affairs in such a way that they do not interfere with your one-day vow of silence. \nOn that day\, no driving (except for emergencies)\, no TV\, no conversation\, just self-observation\, contemplation\, japa and learning (1) to give love in silence while (2) learning to love silence. \nMay I ask all our swamis\, initiators\, spiritual advisers\, teachers\, centre leaders to kindly popularize this concept and take this year to prepare the people to undertake this one-day vow of silence.” \nThis sacred day is celebrated at SRSG by all ashramites and visiting sadhakas as well as globally by the AHYMSIN community. \nText Courtesy of AHYMSIN.org \n

SUMMARY:Thursday Satsang via Zoom: "Love" Reading of the prose and poetry of love\, kindness\, and compassion with John David Wilson. - February 10\, 2022
DESCRIPTION:Thursday Satsang via Zoom – February 10\, 2022\nSatsang: Love\nwith John David Wilson.\n7:00 p.m.: Meditation with John David Wilson\n7:30-8:30 p.m.: Talk by John David Wilson\n8:30 p.m.: Evening Prayers\nTo receive the zoom link for this event\, please subscribe to The Meditation Center’s e-newsletter on the home page of this website.\nOn Thursday\, February 10th\, John David Wilson will guide you in a satsang exploring that most necessary element of your meditative practice\, Love. Both Swami Rama and Swami Veda emphasized that without Love\, there is no yoga\, no community\, no progress. What we can build in this world is a space for love and grace to manifest amongst us. Join us on zoom as we meditate\, reflect\, read and write in loving exploration of this vast aspect of our lives. Take a moment to contemplate your current feelings about and definition of love: how closely is\nyour life connected by this cosmic force?\n\nDo you have a favorite thought\, poem\, or example of love that you might share with the community? How open are you to noticing love\, to being motivated by love\, to being a secret agent of love? Does your ego create barriers to love? Think of some ways yogis expand their hearts to allow infinite love to flow through them.\n\n\nHave a piece of paper and a pen handy. Write love letters to your deepest Self. We will begin with a few readings and continue mapping out some of the vast field we call love\, circling back to our needs\, habits\, hopes\, creating some signposts for our inspiration; hopefully bringing this exercise\, this ritual offering\, back to our daily practice.\n\n\nJohn David Wilson has had the good fortune to have studied with Swami Veda since he first came to the Twin Cities\, was initiated by HHSSR over 50 years ago\, and is thankful for their continuing love everyday.\n\n\n\nTo support the work of The Meditation Center and register you can donate here (suggested donation $15.00) for Thursday Satsang or make a general donation by clicking on the “donate” button on the “Support TMC” website page.\n\nOr donate through PayPal.

The word “kirtan” means singing\, chanting\, and praising the Divine. It is a sacred practice anyone can do; no special training is required. The music does the work for you\, carrying you to a state of tremendous joy and mental clarity…\n\n\n\n…But the most important instrument in kirtan is the voice\,’There is a sacredness in everyone’s voice. It is like hearing your own soul’\, shares Milwaukee-based kirtan wallah Ragani. who leads one of the largest ongoing monthly kirtan events in North America. Your voice comes from within; it is uniquely yours. Unlike an instrument which acts on you\, emanating from the outside in\, the voice acts internally\, emanating from the inside out. When you sing kirtan\, you can literally feel the sound resonating inside you. ‘massaging’ your inner organs with sacred mantras…”\n\n(Kirtan! Chanting as a Spiritual Path. pages 7 and 9)\n\n

This will not be a lecture\, but rather a study and discussion group. Although the leaders will officiate and offer brief talks now and then\, all of the study group members will read and discuss the verses. Participants will share perspectives from their favorite translations of the verses and commentaries\, and this will broaden our understanding of the “Gita.”\n\nBecause one of the leaders is a Yoga Alliance Continuing Yoga Education Provider (YACEP)\, you may count each hour of your participation in this study group as a “Contact” hour of continuing yoga education.\n\nLeaders: Sandra Uyterhoeven and Randall Krause\nSandra Uyterhoeven is an experienced yoga teacher\, yoga therapist and loves the Bhagavad Gita. She is an initiate in the Himalayan Yoga Meditation Tradition. Sandra is experienced at leading study groups in yoga philosophy.\n\nRandall Krause is an initiate of the Himalayan Yoga Meditation Tradition and a senior mentor and teacher in the Tradition. He is registered with Yoga Alliance (YA) as an Experienced Yoga Teacher and a Continuing Yoga Education Provider (YACEP).
