“Soil Health and Human Health” with Fred Rozumalski

It has been documented that mineral and vitamin content of our food has significantly declined since the 1950s. Autoimmune diseases have been increasing since that time, which coincides with the beginning of industrial agriculture – specifically the use of fertilizers and pesticides. A new movement is underfoot to regenerate soils and restore our food value. In the process of restoring soil, water is cleaned, animals are treated humanely, and carbon is sequestered. This presentation provides an overview of the regenerative agriculture movement and what you can do to increase your food value. Come join the discussion.

Fred is an urban ecologist and landscape architect practicing sustainable land design through Barr Engineering Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he also leads the Green Infrastructure Practice Group. His work strives to regenerate ecological systems in built environments, while accommodating the needs of people. Fred has been adjunct faculty in the Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Minnesota. His work ranges from writing city-wide green infrastructure plans, to restoring native ecosystems, to designing college campuses and corporate urban environments that feature perennial food crops and extensive lawn elimination. His work currently focuses on sustainable design that addresses adaptation to climate change.
