Ayurveda is primarily a qualitative science. It gives us a language of qualities that helps us understand the interrelationship of all things in life.
All of our experiences in life have to be either digested and assimilated, or broken down and eliminated. There is the food we taste, the aromas we smell, the sights we see, the air we breathe, the sounds we hear, and the thoughts we think. How do we create balance and harmony out of all these qualities in life?
In this class we’ll start with the primal tri-guna, or three prime qualities of sattva, rajas and tamas. Then we’ll look at the pairs of opposites along with practical methods for creating balanced, healthy relationships.
“The three gunas – sattva, rajas, and tamas – are the three dynamic states of prakriti, which, like ropes or strings, bind the soul to the body of five elements.” -Bhagavad Gita 14:5
“The aspirant should always be vigilant, watching that tamas and rajas remain tamed with the help of sattva so that s/he can continue on the path undisturbed and undistracted. In order to accomplish this, earnest effort should be made, and one should meditate regularly.” – Swami Rama’s commentary
Please join us for an afternoon of satsang to share and ponder the teachings. Our goal as always, will be to move towards greater balance and harmony with life. All are welcome.
