The word faith can bring up many associations. Perhaps we think of the faith-based religions, or professing faith in a belief system. Maybe we think of blind faith, or of faith in relation to doubt. Many questions are bound to arise when we contemplate the meaning of faith. Is faith different from belief? Is there a difference between outer faith and inner faith? Where do we place our own faith? What do we believe in, if anything? What is your definition of faith? Do we need to have faith to practice yoga?
Swami Veda once replied to that question with a question:
‘Do you need to have faith to play tennis?’
In this talk, we’ll take a look at what the yoga tradition has to say about faith. Then we’ll survey what other world traditions have to say. We may be surprised at the depth of the subject, and how all the traditions tend to echo each other.
Please join us as we reflect on these questions and examine our own faith.
All are welcome.
“True belief, which is known as faith, comes after direct experience.
Faith born from direct experience becomes part of the aspirant’s being
& such faith protects the aspirant like a mother protects her child.”
– Swami Rama
