The “Days of Awe” are the ten days between the Jewish High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. The blowing of the shofar on Rosh Hashanah is a call to wake up to the urgency of each moment. This period of celebration, contemplation, and atonement is somewhat comparable to Lent and Ramadan. The dates also coincide with the Hindu holiday Navaratri. The relentlessness of the High Holidays– the long days at the synagogue, the constant repetition of the prayers, the fasting– wears down our defenses and helps us open to the truth of our lives. We will discuss and explore how these “Days of Awe” have the potential to be a journey of self-transformation.
