Thursday Satsang: “Creating Connections Across Boundaries through Meditation”
with Rev. Steve Benson – May 10, 2018
Yoga gives us a vision of, and a pathway toward, unity of all things. Much of the world around contributes to disunity by establishing “boundaries” which attempt to divide existence
into different categories. These artificial divisions give rise to dis-unity and dis-ease (physical, emotional, and social).
Rev. Steven Benson will share examples of how meditation can help create connections across these artificial boundaries, drawing on his experiences in mental health counseling, addiction counseling, grief counseling, conflict resolution, and interfaith relations. Special emphasis will be placed on his work with Muslim and other faith communities in the Middle East, South Asia, and North America.
Steven Benson is a 1972 initiate of Swami Veda Bharati (initiate name: Nivedita – one who has become an offering). He participated in the earlier teacher training programs that were offered by the Meditation Center. With encouragement from Swami Veda, he resumed earlier studies toward an M.Div. in the Christian tradition and was ordained as a Lutheran pastor in 1982. After some years in church service he pursued a program at Hartford, CT, to earn an M.A. in Islamic Studies and Interfaith Relations.
