Thursday Satsang: “The Yogic Tie-In to the Anatomy and Physiology of Breathing” with Dr. Paul Emerson
Most of the unusual feats of yoga involve manipulation of the “breath”. Breath (aka Prana) in yoga is a psychophysiological abstraction which includes the process of respiration, the act of breathing, the psychological effects of breathing as well as less well understood phenomena which don’t fit easily within a scientific or medical paradigm. In this discussion we will examine some of the descriptions within the yogic literature (particularly the hatha texts) as an introduction to our forthcoming Monday night anatomy and physiology of breathing seminar, November 14, 21, and 28. This will include eupneaic as well as specialized forms of breathing.
