Hatha Yoga

Learn hatha yoga in the Himalayan Tradition as an integrated practice of physical postures (asanas), breath awareness, relaxation, and movement as meditation.

The path of gentle movement to inner stillness

Hatha yoga in the Himalayan Tradition is taught as an integrated practice that brings body, breath, and mind into harmony through centering, relaxation, breath awareness, gentle stretches, asana (posture) refinement, subtle-body relaxation, pranayama (breath practices), and meditation. In this approach, the emphasis is not on physical exercise alone, but on preparing the whole person for meditation and inner awareness.

This prana-vidya style reflects this subtle orientation, with practices that begin in centering, breath awareness, and gentle movement, and then unfold into postures that support steadiness, clarity, and inward focus, with particular emphasis on ahimsa, or non-violence to the self.

A mindful practice

The prana-vidya style

In Sanskrit, prana means the life force or vital energy that animates all living beings, and vidya means knowledge or direct understanding. Prana-vidya, then, is the experiential knowledge of prana and its movement within the body and mind.

In hatha yoga practice, students are guided to sense this flow through careful breathing, attention, and quiet concentration, so that the practice becomes more than physical training. It becomes a means of balancing energy, deepening awareness, and supporting meditative awareness.
