Study, reflection, and the path of inner understanding
Philosophy classes and discussion groups at the Meditation Center provide a space to study the wisdom behind meditation, hatha yoga, and the broader yogic path. These offerings often draw on the teachings of Swami Rama and Swami Veda Bharati, along with foundational texts of classical yoga, to explore questions of consciousness, freedom, and the nature of the Self. The aim is to make traditional teachings accessible, meaningful, and relevant to contemporary life.
Core texts and ideas
The Himalayan Yoga Meditation Tradition of draws from a wide stream of classical Indian wisdom, but centers especially on texts like the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Upanishads. These teachings explore how the mind works, what suffering is, and how inner stillness and insight can be cultivated through practice.
Key ideas include the eightfold path of yoga (asana, breath regulation, concentration, meditation, and more), selfless action, devotion, inquiry into the nature of the self, and liberation or self-realization. In our classes and conversations, philosophy is offered not as abstract theory, but as practical guidance that supports meditation, ethical living, and a more conscious relationship with everyday life.
